Listening to CBC radio as I work on clearing out old files, etc., an item on "as it happens", caught my attention!
Apparently, escapades that would win rats an immediate death-sentence can be carried out if the culprit is wearing a fluffy-tail disguise. Would-be vandals would be well-advised to be as cute as a squirrel. No matter how damaging your rodent rampages might be, people foolishly would tend to "cherish" you!
I admit that I'm biased. After suffering from the work of these rodents in disguise, I'm a rabid squirrel hater. I think people are simply being deceived by the cuteness factor!
And on the "guerilla gardening" front, I'm pleased to report that my wee neighbour across the hall came by yesterday to report that she and her little friend had tidied up the spent tomato and cucumber plants. I gave them my shovel. Now, I don't know if it was they or somebody else who weeded one of the beds out back and put beach stone along the back edge of the bed under the windows where the condensation from air-conditioning units tends to splash mud up on the windows. See, gardening is a somewhat contageous disease!

ReplyDeleteyep...i've had them pull up my newly planted plants...eat my bromeliads...dig holes in my planters...
BUT...i DO have to admit...i'm one of those who let their 'cuteness' over ride their mischievous acts!
((by the way...i have had squirrel stew....and it's not bad...)) :]
Hi Kati,
ReplyDeleteThank you for your visit to my blog and you kind comments.
I am not a lover of squirrels. But in my garden it is the foxes that are the most destructive.
Best wishes,
Ingrid
Yes, I have heard people eat squirrels. I say, send them over to my place! Although the little lady in the downstairs apartment would be horrified.
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to think how foxes could bring havoc. I would need to know more about that.
